LONDON (AP) -Thierry Henry is heading back to the New York Red Bulls on time after all.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said last week that he may try to extend the former France striker's loan from Major League Soccer by two weeks to bolster his scant attacking options.
But Wenger said Friday that won't happen.
"I would have loved Thierry to stay for two more weeks but he has to go back," Wenger said. "It's only fair on New York."
An extension would have made the 34-year-old striker available for Arsenal's Feb. 18 FA Cup match at Sunderland and a Feb. 26 game against local rival Tottenham - a match crucial for local bragging rights and Arsenal's hopes of climbing back into the Champions League qualifying spots.
But Wenger will mostly rely on leading scorer Robin van Persie to lead the attack alone, although Gervinho will soon be back with the club after his stint at the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.
Henry has only Saturday's English Premier League game at Sunderland and Wednesday's Champions League match at AC Milan to play before returning to New York on Feb. 16.
The MLS season starts March 10.
Henry rejoined the club he quit in 2007 on Jan. 6 after training with the Gunners during the MLS offseason. He has scored twice in five substitute appearances over the past six weeks to extend his club-record haul to 228.
Speaking after Henry scored the final goal in last weekend's 7-1 win over struggling Blackburn, Wenger said Henry had lifted the club since returning.
"How much, you can never give a percentage, but he was very positive and everyone takes his advice on board because he has delivered here and they want to deliver, too," Wenger said. "He is respected and he was very positive."

Mr. Zardari and his late wife, Benazir Bhutto, were ordered by a Swiss magistrate in 2003 to return $12 million in kickbacks to Pakistan. That ruling was later overturned after the government of Pakistan withdrew its case in 2008 as part of a political amnesty.
The prime minister?s legal team argues that as president, Zardari enjoys immunity, whereas the Supreme Court judges have stated that, immunity or not, Gilani must follow the court?s decision.
If convicted, Mr. Gilani faces six months in jail and a bar on holding public office. But if he is dismissed, Zardari's government can elect another prime minister, who could in theory also refuse to obey the court?s order, resulting in a constitutional limbo.

However, unlike the video, these are of (reasonably) decent quality, showing off the chassis of the phone and HTC Sense 4.0's redesigned, geometric stylings.
Today's photos seem to confirm that version 4.0 will give HTC Sense it's biggest visual overhaul yet. The classic Sense dock is gone, replaced with ICS-style icons. And the iconic clock widget had undergone a few changes too, with more clean lines and less translucency. The lockscreen, however, seems to be more or less unchanged from Sense 3.x -- you've still got the familiar metal ring and four shortcuts. And in terms of industrial design, it's clear we're looking at a pretty thin device, with what seems to be slightly raised areas at the top and bottom of the back panel.
As with any unofficial leak, things can, and likely will change as the unveiling and eventual release approaches. We've got our fingers crossed for more HTC Ville goodness at MWC later this month. You'll find two more photos after the jump.
