Entertainment Services on the Internet

The ability to stream data from the Internet to a variety of different devices has opened the door for many companies to offer more entertainment services. Streaming is the ability to have audio or video sent directly to a device as it is being played. This is different than downloading something and playing it at some future time. The ability to stream video programs live using the Internet has allowed many companies to offer television programs to subscribers as an Internet based service.

Companies offering cable or satellite programming now offer their customers the same programs accessible from the Internet. This allows people to see live events as they are being broadcast. The Internet videos can be concerts, sports events or news as it is happening around the world. Streaming can also apply to audio, which is often in the form of live radio shows. People can now tune into radio programs broadcast from different places around the world to hear music or live discussions. An advantage to using the Internet to stream live talk radio shows is the ability to ask questions while the program is on the air. Many of these shows offer live chat formats, where listeners can type in their questions while the show is in progress.

Connecting with Friends and Family

The ability to use the Internet for video transmission has led to the development of many video chat services. These services are taking the place of calling people through the use of a traditional phone. The video chat allows people to call anyone with a valid e-mail address. Many companies offering this service provide a basic package for free. The basic package allows members to call people on a one to one basis. The deluxe packages allow people to make connections with as many as five different people at the same time.

In addition to the video chat service, there are also some companies on the Internet who offer free phone services. This service will allow the user to connect to a a mobile or landline phone using the Internet. The phone number is dialed through the use of a touchpad interface.

Accessing the Internet

Not only has the technology on the Internet allowed for better communication in a variety of fields, it has also allowed for a number of different devices to be used when accessing it. People can still connect to the Internet using their computers, but they can also connect using their cell phones, portable palm devices and a variety of hand held game consoles. These devices are designed with Internet browser technology which allows people to access their e-mail, visit websites and even fill out online forms. The technology used for Internet communication has significantly changed the way people use the Internet.
